Fossil Formation
Brett Pyle
Grady Middle School, Houston, TX
(adapted from NSTA lesson materials)

This set of 4 activities allows students to "fossilize" dead insects in resin, make casts and molds from shells, infer speed of motion from footprints, and preserve animal tracks. Sample assessment questions, reading materials, and tips for activity leaders are included with the lesson. Internet access is not required for the activities themselves.

Palaeontology & Fossils
Dr. Ian West's Geology Directory
School of Ocean and Earth Science, Southampton University
An excellent resource! Contains many links to websites for general and specific fossil types, as well as some nice pictures and descriptions of various fossils. Dr. West has rated some of the links with stars and provided descriptions of their target websites to simplify users' searches. |
